Postdoctoral Fellow [Switzerland]

Schneidawind Lab
Department of Medical Oncology and Hematology
USZ / UZH

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc to join the Schneidawind Group beginning of January 2024 (or at an earlier/later time point according to prior agreement) at the Department of Medical Oncology and Hematology at the University Hospital Zurich (USZ) and the University of Zurich (UZH). We focus on CRISPR/Cas9-based disease models to understand the pathobiology of hematological diseases and to test novel pharmacological and cythotherapeutic treatment approaches. In detail, our lab developed robust and faithful human BCR/ABL and MLL rearranged models based on patient-specific translocations induced in hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) derived from both cord blood and bone marrow. By using genetic analyses, we gain valuable knowledge about disease mechanisms uncovering novel therapeutic targets with high translational character that can be easily tested with our platforms.

Requirements:

The postdoctoral candidate must have a PhD and strong background in molecular cell biology. Prior experience with genome editing techniques such CRISPR/Cas9 is mandatory. Experience with flow cytometry, cell culture techniques and single cell sorting is highly valued. Excellent communication skills in English are an absolute requirement. The ability to work well in teams, a high degree of self-motivation and interest in generating scientific progress is essential. The candidate must be willing to advise junior staff. Strong writing skills with a proven track record of successful research and publication is also very essential. We look for a team player who shares our spirit of collaboration and at the same time, strives for innovative research in an interdisciplinary environment. The successful candidate should be able to raise financial support from national and international third-party funds.
