Social Service Providers Te Pai Ora o Aotearoa (SSPA) is a collective and inclusive membership-based organisation, representing approximately 230 non-profit, community-based social service organisations from around Aotearoa New Zealand.

SSPA celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2022 and continues to serve members and deliver on its organisational vision to strengthen Aotearoa New Zealand’s social sector through advocacy and engagement, learning and development, relationships, and sector leadership.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

A unique, national leadership role within Aotearoa New Zealand’s community-based social services, you will be working with and for SSPA’s members on kaupapa that advances the aspirations and positive outcomes of whānau and hapori throughout the motu.

Leading an inclusive, innovative and thriving organisational culture, you will guide the SSPA team and engage closely with the SSPA National Executive, SSPA members and a wide range of partner and stakeholder organisations.

In this varied and dynamic role, you will be focused on providing manaaki for members, social sector leadership, and system-level advocacy on kaupapa relevant to community-based social services and the children, rangatahi and whānau who they serve.

Ideally this role is based with the SSPA team in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, however for the right candidate, other locations will be considered.

Relational by nature, you love working with and building relationships with people. You are a visionary leader, outstanding communicator and a natural collaborator, who works collectively to achieve system and sector-wide impact.

Key skills and experience include:

  • Sound knowledge of the community-based social services sector in Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • Proven leadership experience and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to operate at both macro and micro level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and working to support the aspirations of whānau Māori and equity for whānau Māori.
  • Cultural and societal awareness and understanding, including of Aotearoa New Zealand’s multi-ethnic, cultural, and linguistic diversity.
  • Ability to build strong relationships across relevant Government agencies and social services providers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a range of settings and with diverse audiences.
