Manager, Technology & Sourcing (Nutrition & Health)(003795) [China]

 

Objective:
Extract maximum value for Vitamin & Carotenoids (ENV) operations from the emerging manufacturing base in Asia by

• Identify and evaluate suitable co-operation partners (suppliers, tollers, service providers) to ensure that BASF develops a reliable supplier/toller base for Vitamins & Carotenoids in China, that is capable to deliver products in time, in spec, at best costs and in compliance with BASF global Responsible Care (RC), EHS, and QA/QC guidelines.
• Implement and lead sourcing and tolling projects with initial focus on China (including transfer of technical package) at our partners (toll manufacturer).
• Participate negotiation of toll manufacturing and supply agreements as one member of negotiation team
• Manage and supervise running sourcing/tolling operations to guarantee sustainable supply in terms of quality, costs, and EHS compliance.
• Set up targets and implementation plans for process improvements at the tollers to reduce raw material and variable manufacturing costs.
• Propose supply strategies for products available in Asia with the objective to optimize manufacturing costs of ENV while balancing risk and opportunities.

Main Responsibilities:
Market intelligence, identification of tolling / sourcing partners for Formulation/Filling/Packaging in China for Vitamins/Carotenoids

• Identify and evaluate suitable co-operation partners (suppliers, tollers, strategic partners) and provide detailed information regarding product portfolio, capacities, specifications, quotations, financial stability, company vision and strategy, management, EHS and QA standards, etc (company profiles).
• Provide information about the generic landscape.

Project implementation

• Assess technical implementation plan, production and safety concept of tollers
• Moderate and lead technical discussions with supplier / toller
• Drive implementation plan to meet delivery schedule, specification, cost of goods targets, EHS/QA requirements.
• Close communication and coordination with global units
• Co-operate within Sourcing & Contract Manufacturing (ENT/OR) team in bigger projects.
• Focus on Formulation/Filling/Packaging and safety concept of the tollers.

Routine operations

• Coordinate and manage routine operations at suppliers / tollers to guarantee sustainable supply in terms of timely delivery, quality, costs, and EHS compliance.
• Set targets with tollers for process improvements to reduce raw material and variable manufacturing costs.
• Reconciliations of production campaigns.
• Troubleshooting

EHS/Responsible Care

• Guide and train suppliers and tollers with respect to EHS and responsible care to ensure they meet BASF requirements in this area.

Contract, commercial terms

• Negotiate supply and toll manufacturing agreements with partners in alignment with ENT/ENV

Act as focal point for all technical related and commercial aspects for supplier and BASF Nutrition & Health (EN) units regarding China tolling

• Bachelor degree or plus in Chemistry, chemical or mechanical engineering
• Minimum 5 years working experience in the following areas;
• Production, project management, process development/technology and sourcing;
• 3rd party relationship management;
• Contract management and commercial negotiation
• Excellent communication skills
