Merchandising Officer, M+ Museum [Hong Kong S.A.R.]


 
M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. In Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District, we are building one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world, with a bold ambition to establish ourselves as one of the world’s leading cultural institutions. Our aim is to create a new kind of museum that reflects our unique time and place, a museum that builds on Hong Kong’s historic balance of the local and international to define a distinctive and innovative voice for Asia’s twenty-first century.
We are now inviting applications for the following position a short-term contract of less than 12 months.
You will be responsible for:
  • working closely with Buyer and Product Developer to develop department strategy and action plans for the commodities including books, stationary and paper products that achieve sales, profit targets and cost control;

    identifying and proposing new business opportunities, new sourcing strategies and methods to maximise profitability;
  • monitoring performance against plan and identifying cost-effective and efficient replenishment methodology to ensure an optimum stock level is maintained for business needs;
  • quantifying open to buy with phased commitments, proposing mark down and pricing adjustments to ensure inventory levels kept in check;
  • establishing critical path for the development and delivery of all product ranges including product trialling and display sampling;
  • ensuring all products on shelf meet relevant regulation and trading standards that protect the best interest of M+;
  • managing suppliers’ relationship and performance, contributing ideas to management on supplier management strategy;
  • conducting regular meetings with relevant teams to review the business performance, identifying potential challenges, exploring the opportunities and mitigating risk; and
  • managing databases and systems, preparing regular weekly reports and statistic for management review.
You should:
  • possess a recognised university degree in any disciplines;
  • have at least 5 years of relevant experience with renowned multinational retailers specialised in books, stationary and paper products;
  • demonstrate high level of accuracy, attentive to details, strong numerical sense;
  • have experience in project management from concept to implementation, be able to follow through and report any potential risk to management when deem necessary;
  • be a good team player, well-organised, creative, flexible and able to work under high pressure; and
  • possess good communication skills, proficient in both written and oral English and Chinese.
